The exhibits
Many different sets can be made up from the bank of interactives we keep at Old Coach House but we have 3 exhibitions which we use alone or in combination: the blue set, the green set, the red set. Go to the topics page to read what the sets cover.
All cover the same broad syllabus, the blue in the greatest depth, the red in the least. The blue set contains a very large number of small items, the red a small number of big ones. The blue set requires table space, the red not. The blue set takes 6 hours to set out, the red 2 hours. The blue set is suitable for long events in closed venues, the red set for short events in open spaces.

Staffing the exhibition
One or more 'mathworkers' set up and dismantle the exhibition, induct the staff in its use and introduce the sessions.

Reception and KS1 children should be shepherded around by an adult in groups of not more than 5. The adult interprets the instructions on an interactive and organises the contribution of each child to that particular activity.
KS2 children work autonomously in groups of 2 or 3.
Please ensure a child adult ratio of 10:1 for Yr 3 & 4, 20:1 for Yr 5 & 6.

If guest groups are to be received in a secondary school, whether from feeder primary schools or other, the involvement of older students as ushers and demonstrators is welcome.

Organisation - Primary
A typical primary school hall takes one class (40 children) at a time.
Allow 3/4 hour for Reception and KS1 children, 1 and 1/4 hours for KS2.
Where the space is needed for school lunches, the red set is recommended. This packs flat against the walls. Allow 1/4 hour for this and for resetting after lunch.

Organisation - Secondary
A typical secondary school hall takes 2 classes (60 children) at a time. The schedule should be arranged to fit the school timetable. The children work autonomously in groups of 2 or 3. The activities can occupy the children for up to 1 and 1/2 hours. They are most suitable for Yr 7 and Yr 8.

Furniture
Provide two classes-worth of furniture. This can be of any kind: exam desks, stage blocks, trestles, ... or a mixture. If classrooms are to be used, allow 2 rooms for every 30 children.
There's no need to move out tables but stack the chairs to provide access while setting up.

Costs
The tariff runs as follows:

1 day: £500
2 days: £950
3 days: £1,350
4 days: £1,700
5 days: £2,000

Add £300 for each day beyond that.

To these figures should be added travel and accommodation expenses for 1 of the 2 members of staff.

Hinweis für deutsche Mathematiklehrer:
Mit Beginn des neuen Schuljahres (August 2008) muss sich leider der Preis für den Mathe-Zirkus erhöhen:
2,00 Euro pro Schüler pro Unterrichtsstunde.
